(CNN) -- From Ping-Pong with the Chinese in the 1970s to baseball with the Cubans in the 1990s, sport has often served as a bridge between the United States and countries with whom it has a prickly relationship.

As the Cuban All-Stars meet the Orioles in the United States, Correspondent Bruce Morton takes a look at the phenomenon of diplomacy through sport.
