NEW YORK (CNN) -- It's been a year since the Teletubbies first hit U.S. shores, and what a year it's been.
One of the hottest Christmas toys of '98 also generated controversy after the Rev. Jerry Falwell's publication said Tinky Winky's purse and purple triangle meant he was gay.
The chubby, vibrantly colored characters have also been subjected to the sincerest form of flattery -- imitators have surfaced from Wal-Mart to Mexico.
But Tinky Winky, Laa Laa, Dipsy and Po had plenty to celebrate when toy store FAO Schwarz threw them a birthday party.
Watch this video report for the celebration.
