Man descends skyscraper with feet in the air

April 14, 1999

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Mark Kenny literally walked his way into the Guinness Book of World Records on Tuesday. It was quite a feat, considering he didn't use his feet.

Kenny, 34, walked on his hands down 1,200 steps of the Citicorp building, a slanted-roof Manhattan high-rise, in 51 minutes and 22 seconds.

The Massachusetts man, who discovered his "talent" as a child, broke the previous record for that distance by more than four minutes.

This isn't the first time Kenny has set a "hands down" world record. In 1994, he "ran" a 50-meter dash in 16.9 seconds.

Kenny added a second record in 1997 when he hand walked down 77 steps in 39.04 seconds, a record he broke on Tuesday by three seconds.
