March 19, 1999 MODESTO, California (CNN) -- Two bodies have been found inside a trunk of a burned-out rental car that belonged to three sightseers who disappeared more than a month ago near Yosemite National Park, the FBI said. James Maddock, the FBI agent leading the investigation, said the bodies have not yet been identified. He said a search was continuing in the remote area where the car was found. Carole Sund, 42, of Eureka, her 15-year-old daughter Julie, and Silvina Pelosso, a 16-year-old family friend from Cordoba, Argentina, were last seen February 15. The FBI had said they believed the three were the victims of a violent crime. The car was found Thursday about 40 miles north of Yosemite near the community of Long Barn. "The car and everything in the car was consumed by flame," said Maddock. He said the investigation was continuing but it would be some time before the bodies were identified and the cause of death was known. RELATED SITES: Federal Bureau of Investigation
