NEW YORK (CNN) -- Shooting victims have been fighting back against the gun industry; a few weeks ago, one won a $500,000 negligence verdict against the manufacturer of the gun used against him.

His lawyers argued that gun makers glut markets where gun laws are lax, knowing full well that those guns will travel to criminals in cities with strict gun laws such as New York City.

Three-quarters of all guns used in New York crimes were bought in other states.

Watch this report as Correspondent Maria Hinojosa traces one gun from the scene of the murder of a police officer back to the factory where it was made.
