March 1, 1999 NEW YORK (CNN) -- A black and white female Japanese Bobtail named Nobu has won the 15th Annual International Cat Show. The 10-year-old feline was judged against 800 cats vying for the title on Sunday at Madison Square Garden in New York. A total of 40 breeds were represented in the show. Nobu is no novice to winning, having now taken the championship twice in the last three years. His owner, Alan Scruggs of North Carolina, named his prize-winning cat after a character in the novel "Memoirs of a Geisha." Cats were judged on a 100-point system according to the characteristics of the specific breed. RELATED STORIES: Cat climbs to new heights RELATED SITES: The Cat Fanciers Association
