These seniors slam-dunk their way to fitness

MILFORD, New Hampshire (CNN) -- The competitors have intimidating nicknames like Irma the Fist, Slam Dunk Rose and Mable the Mauler. But their weekly game of "extreme volleyball," as they call it, won't send anyone to the hospital.

Actually, they're already in one. These players, you see, are residents of the Harborside Healthcare Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Milford, New Hampshire.

The weekly matchup of these players -- some in their 90s -- helps their older bodies stay flexible, says Jennifer Delker, the center's activities director.

Keeping the elderly athletes in shape is one thing. Keeping them safe is another. There isn't actually a volleyball in this game -- it's a balloon.
