IOC president received gifts from Salt Lake officials

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (CNN) -- The International Olympic Committee on Thursday exhibited gifts given to President Juan Antonio Samaranch and his predecessors.

The gifts included Browning guns worth about $2,000 given to Samaranch by Salt Lake City officials.

A probe is underway after some IOC members were accused of taking bribes.

Samaranch, 77, has denied any wrongdoing. He said he was handing the firearms over to the Olympic Museum in Lake Geneva that houses treasures linked to Olympic athletes.

IOC rules ban gifts worth more than $150 to the 114 members who decide the venues of Games; Samaranch is not one of those.

"Keep in mind that Mr. Samaranch does not have a vote and is not paid; he is a volunteer here," said Franklin Servan-Schreiber, the IOC's deputy director of communications.

Reuters contributed to this report.
