Buy THIS for $2.7 million

January 13, 1999
Web posted at: 2:30 p.m. EST (1930 GMT)

(CNN) -- There are lots of millionaires in the world, but only one who was willing to bid $2.7 million for the baseball Mark McGwire hit last year for his record-setting 70th home run.

The buyer -- who had to pay an auction house commission, bringing the total cost to $3,005,000 -- was an anonymous voice on the telephone, who described himself only as "one heck of a baseball fan."

For people who don't have that much enthusiasm, but do have that much money, CNN's Greg LaMotte suggests some other ways to spend it.
