HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Michigan (CNN) -- Ice fishing either leaves you cold -- as in, "Fishing on ice, are you crazy?" -- or, it leaves you cold. Really c-c-c-cold. For ice fishing fans, such hardships don't matter.

Despite frigid temperatures, punching a hole through the ice of a frozen lake or pond and waiting for fish to nibble on your line is still "a wonderful waste of time," says one bundled-up enthusiast.

The typically Midwestern sport obviously isn't for everyone, but there are dozens of Web pages devoted to the subject.

In fact, ice fishing is popular enough to divide its followers into two camps. The "haves" have the sense to set up a shanty on the ice and stay warm inside. The "have nots" don't.
