SUMTER, South Carolina (CNN) -- One week before Christmas and one day into "Operation Desert Fox" the Pentagon announced it was sending additional troops and aircraft to the Persian Gulf region.

Some of the fighter planes will come from Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina, which has already sent personnel to the gulf.

Col. Dan Darnell says the troops now preparing for deployment are pumped up and ready to go.

"The training's there, the equipment's there, and they're ready to move," said Darnell.

Reporter J.R. Berry of CNN affiliate WLTX of Columbia, South Carolina, reports on how civilians in Sumter feel about the latest deployment.
