NEW YORK (CNN) -- New York City is throwing some of its firefighters behind bars.

Much of its fleet of sleek, red and yellow fire trucks is winding up padlocked in cages outside the city's aging fire stations. And, as CNN's Jeanne Moos finds, curious New Yorkers have no shortage of theories to explain the unusual sight.
