Lincoln Mettler of Eatonville, Washington, won first prize Monday in the 25th
annual Half Moon Bay Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off in California with this 974-pound
entry. Mettler credited a little patience and a lot of fertilizer for the hefty
specimen, which earned him the top prize of $4,870. He said he will plow his
winnings back into his six pumpkin patches.
