Authorities seek local help in search for RudolphJuly 27, 1998Web posted at: 5:02 p.m. EDT (2102 GMT) ANDREWS, North Carolina (CNN) -- More helicopters and airplanes have joined the search for bombing suspect Eric Robert Rudolph, and investigators are asking local residents for information about hidden caves or abandoned mines in the area. Rudolph, 31, is charged with the bombing of a Birmingham, Alabama, women's clinic six months ago. He is also wanted for questioning in the Centennial Olympic Park bombing and two other bomb attacks in Atlanta. Monday is the second anniversary of the Centennial Park bombing, which killed one woman and injured more than 100 people during the 1996 Olympics.
Southeast Bomb Task Force head Woody Enderson on Monday repeated his call for help from anyone with "the slightest bit of information" about Rudolph or where he may be hiding. There is a $1 million reward for information leading to his capture. "We are today seeking information concerning the location of any caves or mines located in or around our search area," Enderson said. Enderson said there are about 200 officers from 16 federal, state and local law enforcement agencies involved in the search in western North Carolina. "We will continue to work, no matter how long it takes, until we bring closure to that bombing investigation," he said. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
