Summer camps: not just for fun anymore

kids
With both parents working, camps have become a necessity for many
July 24, 1998
Web posted at: 2:33 p.m. EDT (1433 GMT)

(CNN) -- The summer camp business is flourishing in the United States, home to about 10,000 different places for parents to place their kids during the day.

Not so long ago, summer camps were limited to groups like Scouts and families with extra money. But for many of today's dual-career couples and single parents, the camps have become less of a luxury and more of a necessity.

CNN's Anne McDermott reports on the trend.
