Web posted at: 11:17 a.m. EDT (1517 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Bastille Day, which honors the French revolution, was celebrated with champagne and a friendly competition Tuesday on America's most famous street. Instead of storming a prison, the waiters and waitresses in the 24th annual Bastille Day Race and Celebration carried bottles of champagne balanced on service trays along a 12-block course on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington D.C.. One participant dressed for the occasion -- as Marie Antoinette.
