TRAVERSE CITY, Michigan (CNN) -- The U.S. Coast Guard and Canadian aircraft searched the Great Lakes Saturday for a Russian military jet that disappeared Friday while training for an air show.

The Mig L-39 fighter with two people on board disappeared while making a preparatory flight for Saturday's Cherry Festival Air Show in Traverse City. The Russian jet was scheduled to perform with the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels flying unit during the festival.

The jet was last reported in the area of South Fox Island in Lake Michigan. A companion aircraft made it safely to the ground.
