RICHMOND, Virginia (CNN) -- Two suspects were taken into
custody on Monday after a shooting at Armstrong High School
that left two school personnel wounded, police said. Neither
of the injuries was life-threatening, police officer Bill
Chourney told CNN. ( No students were injured. Chourney said one of those wounded was a male teacher hit in the chest. An aide to Richmond Mayor Larry Chavis identified him as history teacher and basketball coach Gregory Carter. The other person injured was a female guidance counselor, who was grazed by a bullet. Both were shot in a hallway of the city public school on Richmond's east end about 10 a.m. as students were taking final exams.
"We heard about 10 rounds of gunshots," one student said.
"Right after that, we heard people panicking." ( The male suspects were not identified and there was no immediate word on a motive for the shootings. It was the latest in a spate of school shootings since October, including fatal shootings in West Paducah, Kentucky; Pearl, Mississippi; Jonesboro, Arkansas; and Springfield, Oregon. Tuesday is the last day of school in Richmond before the summer break.
