FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (CNN) -- Police say a man shot to death a woman teacher and then killed himself in the parking lot of Stranahan High School just before classes started Friday.

Police spokespersons said no students were involved in the incident, and none witnessed the shooting.

"We had a murder-suicide. A female teacher was slain.... The perpetrator turned the gun on himself and killed himself," said Sgt. Terry Haskins.

Haskins said a school bus driver and another teacher were witnesses to the shooting. The man and woman who died have yet been identified by police.

A police communications officer, who did not want to be identified, said the man was waiting in the parking lot for the teacher.

Haskins said police "believe it was a boyfriend-girlfriend situation."

The shooting occurred before the start of classes at the high school. Classes continued at the 2,100-student school.

"All of the kids are fine and they're in class," school receptionist Florence Bestman said.

The teacher's body was found in her car. The man's body was found in the parking lot near the open driver's door of the car.
