ATLANTA (CNN) -- Police used a grenade to end a seven-hour standoff Thursday with a man apparently obsessed with
right-wing conspiracies he learned about on the Internet.
Responding to a fire alarm at The Temple synagogue in midtown Atlanta, police arrived to find Charles Morgan, 49, of Kingston, Georgia, intermittently driving his truck around and yelling about conspiracies.
He had a shotgun taped to his chest with the barrel pointing at his chin.
The standoff ended when police fired a concussion grenade -- an explosion fired overhead meant to distract the person below -- then rushed up and subdued Morgan with a shock device. Morgan was then taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for mental evaluation.
Police reported finding printouts from Web sites of various right-wing groups inside the truck.
