NORTHGLENN, Colorado (CNN) -- Chasing a stray dog during his constitutional early Thursday morning, Keiko, a 10-year-old Alaskan husky, fell into a 10-foot-deep sinkhole which had been created by a broken drainage pipe.
As Keiko's owner tried to calm him, a team of firefighters tried to extract him. But they couldn't reach him -- and a frightened Keiko couldn't be coaxed out.
But after six hours and the use of heavy equipment to widen the hole and lower a firefighter to the dog, Keiko was finally rescued, looking a bit dirty but none the worse for wear.
