Extended Coverage The Red River Flood, one year later

CNN's Jeff Flock reports on Grand Forks' great flood

Looking at the devastation, a year later

GRAND FORKS, North Dakota (CNN) -- This time last year, the town of Grand Forks faced a future of uncertainty.

A swollen Red River had swamped the town, and downtown Grand Forks was ablaze.

Floodwaters destroyed three-quarters of Grand Forks' homes.

Fire destroyed 11 downtown buildings, including the building that housed the local newspaper -- which managed to keep publishing, and just this week won a Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of the Grand Forks' flood.

Despite the turmoil, Grand Forks' story has become one of triumph.

CNN's Jeff Flock was there last year to report on the devastation. Now he has returned to share the stories of a town in recovery. Watch his reports here.

CNN's Jeff Flock shows us the demolition of a home at 808 Lincoln Drive. The home is located at the south end of Grand Forks, in a once-beautiful neighborhood. Some of the homes in this area took on more than 19 feet of water during the flood. Because of the damage, more than 500 homes in Grand Forks are slated for demolition. Backhoes work daily to accomplish the task, but only about 100 homes have been razed so far. CNN's Jeff Flock shows us the demolition of this home.
