BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (CNN) -- A US Airways jet that may have
been struck by lightning skidded off the runway while landing
at Birmingham International Airport. It blew two tires,
causing the nose gear to collapse, the airline and Federal
Aviation Administration said. No injuries were reported.
Flight 861 was coming in Thursday evening from Charlotte,
North Carolina. Passengers used portable stairs to exit the
plane, which remained in mud next to the runway, according to
the airline.
US Airways spokesman David Castelveter said the twin-engine
Folker-100 jet reported losing hydraulic power before it
landed, and may have been struck by lightning.
