Tobacco industry documents to be put on Internet Friday

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The first installment of millions of pages of tobacco industry are scheduled to be released Friday to the public.
The heads of major tobacco companies promised during testimony before Congress on January 29 that they would release the document.
The planned 10 a.m. EST release is expected to include a posting on the Internet.
Minnesota Attorney General Hubert H. "Skip" Humphrey III dismissed the move as a "PR ploy," since the documents are to be made public during the Minnesota trial, which began last month and is continuing.
The documents will be grouped by company. Searchable indices will include the titles of documents, the author, recipients, date and codes indicating the legal request for the document.
The companies releasing the material are Philip Morris, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco, and Lorillard Tobacco.
