FORT WORTH, Texas (CNN) -- A former friend of Diane Zamora, an ex-Naval Academy midshipman charged with killing a
16-year-old girl, testified Monday that Zamora told her she and her boyfriend committed the crime.
Christina Mason was the first witness to testify in the capital murder trial.
Prosecutors allege that Zamora, 20, and ex-lover David Graham, 20, bludgeoned and shot Adrianne Jones in December 1995 after Graham told Zamora he had slept with Jones when all three were in high school together.
Zamora and Graham both face life sentences if convicted. Graham, an ex-freshman at the Air Force Academy, will be tried this summer.
Prosecutors say Zamora told academy roommates and friends about the slaying, eventually leading to her and Graham's arrests.
Mason testified that Zamora told her this was the girl Graham had sex with and they planned her murder.
