FORT BRAGG, North Carolina (CNN) -- One soldier was killed and two others injured Saturday when an Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter apparently suffered an equipment failure.
The soldiers were working on the helicopter while it was parked on the tarmac of Simmons Army Airfield at Fort Bragg when the accident occurred, said Capt. Elizabeth Hibner.
Lt. Rick Spearman, the public affairs officer of the 18th Airborne Corp, said, it is suspected that the aircraft suffered "some sort of massive equipment failure" during a maintenance check on the ground. He said the soldier killed apparently was struck by debris.
The names of the soldier killed and the two injured were not release pending notification of their relatives. One of the injured was airlifted and another taken by a ground ambulance to the base hospital, Womack Army Medical Center.
Fort Bragg is located north of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and is the home of the 82nd Airborne Division.
