SPARKS, Nevada (CNN) -- Several people were injured and up to three others missing after an explosion rocked a chemical plant near Sparks, police said.
Sgt. Bob Towery of the Washoe County Sheriff's Department
said witnesses had heard two consecutive explosions at the
Sierra Chemical Co. plant, which is about 10 miles east of

the time of the blasts, which occurred at about 8 a.m.,
according to the police spokesman.
The plant manufactures a variety of explosives for the mining
and weapons industry.
A secondary fire was being allowed to burn itself out amid
fears that there may be more explosives at the plant and that
there may be toxic vapors in the air.
Because the plant is located in a rural, canyon area, no
evacuations have been necessary.

the arrival of an unknown number of injured, according to a
