PADUCAH, Kentucky (CNN) -- Investigators hope to arrest another student "in the next day or two" in connection with Monday's school shooting in which three students were killed and five wounded, a law enforcement source told CNN Wednesday.
Earlier Wednesday, McCracken County Sheriff Frank Augustus, in charge of the investigation into the shooting at Heath High School, said that 14-year-old suspect Michael Carneal might not have acted alone.
"I have a gut feeling that somebody else was involved in it," Augustus said at a news conference on Wednesday. And although he admitted that he had no proof, he said that "I don't believe this boy planned this out by himself." (

The sheriff said his suspicions were raised by the fact that Carneal had brought five guns to school, and evidently made statements to people that "something tragic" or "something big" was going to happen.
"I may be totally out of whack here," Augustus said, but added that he suspects there may be other students who had a role in planning the shooting.
"I believe that there is somebody in the background that we need or we need to talk to," he said.
Augustus said that some students had already been interviewed but that so far there were no leads.
Asked if he thought that there would be more arrests, Augustus said, "I hope so."
The sheriff characterized Carneal as a "sorry, small, disturbed boy" but added that he had committed a serious crime and should be tried as an adult.(
