Pasadena puts on crazy rose-colored glasses for parade

PASADENA, California (CNN) -- The sun again shined brightly Sunday on the tacky, wacky Doo Dah Parade.

The 21st annual zippy spoof of the Tournament of Roses Parade was a casual, harmless procession of the weirdly themed and costumed.

Drag queens, tongue-in-cheek floats and proponents of offbeat political issues amused the thousands who lined the mile-long parade route.

Many in the crowd wore Dr. Seuss-style felt hats as the marchers poked fun at the distinguished Rose Parade.

The West Hollywood Cheerleaders -- men dressed as female cheerleaders -- wiggled and jiggled to music and shook pompoms.

There was the queen of the parade -- Juliarana, a mother-daughter team dressed as Siamese twins who were pushed down the streets on a hot pink love seat. Their Royal Court included two men with platinum blonde wigs who were garbed in blue plastic wrap.

The parade provides free time on a public soapbox to many. One group, for example, called for legalizing ferrets as pets.
