CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts (CNN) -- Dozens of protesters
rallied at the Cambridge courthouse on Monday in support of
British nanny Louise Woodward, who last week was convicted of
second-degree murder of an 8-month-old baby-boy in her care
and who is serving a life sentence.
Both the defense and the prosecution were expected to file
their motions Monday, and Superior Court Judge Hiller Zobel
was to hold a hearing in the case Tuesday.
A spokesman for the district attorney says defense attorneys
have notified the prosecution that they are likely to seek a
reduction in the charge to manslaughter. Prosecutors said
they would argue that the verdict should stand.
The judge's other options include overturning the verdict,
ordering a new trial, or doing nothing at all.
The verdict sparked an outcry in Britain, where a support
group for Woodward raised well over $100,000 in donations.
