BREWTON, Alabama (CNN) -- A minor earthquake jolted southern
Alabama and northwest Florida Friday, but there were no
reports of injuries or major damage.
The magnitude 4.9 tremor struck shortly after 3:30 a.m. (4:30
a.m. EDT), and could be felt in areas stretching from the
port cities of Mobile, Alabama, to Pensacola, Florida,
according to a spokesman at the U.S. Geological Survey in
Golden, Colorado.
The earthquake was centered near the town of Brewton,
Alabama. A magnitude 4.9 quake typically is not strong enough
to inflict heavy damage.
