At this California fest, the pumpkin's the thing

CALABASAS, California (CNN) -- With the Halloween and pumpkin pie seasons both right around the corner, now is the time for serious aficionados of these seedy orange gourds to do some celebrating.

It's all pumpkins at this festival.

And that's exactly what they're doing this weekend in Calabasas, California, near Los Angeles, which is holding its sixth-annual pumpkin festival.

Thirty tons of pumpkins are on display. Also on the schedule are a pie-eating contest (pumpkin, of course), a seed-spitting contest and perhaps even a frame or two -- or 10 -- of pumpkin bowling.
