FOREST FALLS, California (CNN) -- Search and rescue crews were searching in Southern California for 10 hikers, who were issued passes for a mountainous section of Forest Falls where there have been severe mudslides.
A thunderstorm Thursday unleashed a 15-foot-high wall of mud in that area.
Flash floods inundated Southern California deserts, overturning cars and demolishing a 40-foot-wide stretch of highway that runs through Red Rock Canyon State Park, 45 miles northeast of Bakersfield. The water filled normally dry stream beds and canyons.
