SYRACUSE, New York (CNN) -- A group of 10 Syracuse University students, nine of them minorities, are suing a Denny's restaurant and its parent company, Flagstar, charging they were subjected to racial discrimination in April.
The incident marks the latest in a series of racial incidents at the national restaurant chain. In 1994, the company settled a suit filed by a group of Secret Service agents who said they had been refused service.
In a press conference held Thursday, six of the students said they were denied seating while white patrons who arrived behind them were seated. They students had arrived at the restaurant in two separate groups, one with three African-Americans and the other with six Asian-Americans and a white student.
Members of the larger group claim that after leaving the restaurant, they were beaten by a large group of white men while Denny's security guards watched.
