August 12, 1997Web posted at: 9:44 p.m. EDT (0144 GMT) ALICE, Texas (CNN) -- A small plane crashed, exploded and burned Tuesday about a half mile from Alice Municipal Airport, killing all four people aboard, the Texas Department of Public Safety said. The twin-engine prop plane, a Beechcraft Kingair, had just taken off, said DPS spokesman Ed Buris. It was not immediately known where the plane was headed, and the victims were not immediately identified. Witnesses reported the plane appeared to be in trouble and was trying to return to the airport, Buris said. He said the weather was clear at the time of the crash. There is no control tower at the airport. Alice is about 40 miles west of Corpus Christi. Related stories:
