12 injured after jetliner's aborted takeoffAugust 8, 1997Web posted at: 2:36 p.m. EDT (1836 GMT) HONOLULU (CNN) -- Twelve people aboard a Delta Air Lines jetliner sustained minor injuries after the pilot aborted takeoff from Honolulu International Airport Thursday. Seven tires blew out and caused a brake fire during the incident involving Delta Flight 54. The fire was immediately put out by emergency crews. The injuries apparently occurred as the passengers slid down emergency shoots to escape. The plane, an L-1011 with 316 passengers, was departing for Atlanta at 4 p.m. when it returned to the terminal with a possible hydraulic problem. The plane left again at 7:30 p.m., when the takeoff was aborted, passengers said. The cause of the problem was unclear and is under investigation. Copyright 1997 The Associated Press.
