HEBER SPRINGS, Arkansas (CNN) -- An Arkansas boy hunches over a table full of watermelon, quickly surveying his prey. Within seconds, he devours the fruity feast, his toothy grin giving way to a smile the size of a watermelon slice. An awed crowd cheers.

Meet Chris Meyer, a freckle-faced youngster who defeated giant hogs and men nearly twice his size as he chomped his way to become a watermelon-eating champion.
