Source: Brown family lawyer has O.J.'s Heisman Trophy
June 17, 1997 LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- A lawyer for the Brown family has obtained O.J. Simpson's Heisman Trophy, a source close to the wrongful-death civil case told CNN Tuesday. However, attorney Ira Friedman denied to reporters Monday that he had the trophy, which Simpson won as the nation's top college football player in 1968. A judge has been reviewing O.J. Simpson's assets, following a $33.5 million ruling against him in the wrongful-death lawsuits filed by the families of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. Simpson was acquitted of criminal charges in the June 1994 slayings. On Monday, CNN legal analyst Greta Van Susteren said a source told her the trophy, one of Simpson's prized possessions, had been retrieved by the estate of Nicole Brown Simpson. O.J. Simpson's lawyers said last week the trophy was appraised at $400,000. Their client said he didn't know where it is. A hearing on Simpson's assets is to resume June 26. Special Section
