NTSB to urge tighter rules on air bags, safety belts
June 9, 1997Web posted at: 11:27 p.m. EDT (0327 GMT) WASHINGTON (CNN) - The National Transportation Safety Board Tuesday will make 21 safety recommendations, including proposals on airbags and automobile seatbelts, sources tell CNN. The recommendations include: penalizing a driver's record for failure to wear seat belts, or for failure to use child safety seats. The NTSB also will call for better portrayal by Hollywood of traffic laws and traffic safety and will ask states to implement laws that require children to ride in the back seat of a vehicle. The NTSB also wants to track the effectiveness of new reduced force air bags. Related stories:
