LaFOLLETTE, Tennessee (CNN) -- A fireworks warehouse in rural northeastern Tennessee exploded on Thursday, killing at least one person and setting other buildings ablaze, authorities said. Several other people were injured, according to a Campbell County sheriff's official.

The explosion happened around noon at the warehouse of Langston Hill Pyro Shows near LaFollette, Tennessee, 30 miles north of Knoxville.

"The explosion was so loud, I live 13 miles away and it sounded like thunder," said Tennessee State Rep. Mark Goins. The area was being evacuated because of the danger that unexploded fireworks might be ignited by fire, he told CNN by telephone during a live interview.

About 70 firefighters from four fire departments were on the scene battling the blaze that followed the explosion, said an official in the Campbell County Fire Department.
