Six dead in crash of sky-diving plane
May 25, 1997 MIAMI (CNN) -- A small sky-diving plane crashed in a South Florida sweet potato field Sunday, killing six people on board. A parachutist bailed out and survived the crash, which occurred between Miami and the Everglades. The 43-year old woman later told rescue workers she was preparing to parachute when she realized the plane was in trouble at 3,500 feet. She escaped the aircraft just before the crash. The Cessna 210-6 took off from Homestead General Airport. When it crashed about a mile away it flattened and burst into flames. The plane, on an excursion for INC. Skydiving, apparently carried the company's owner and two instructors. All six victims were dead at the scene. Their names were not immediately released. Related stories:
