Airliner hits truck in San Francisco; fire at D.C. airport
May 3, 1997 SAN FRANCISCO (CNN) -- A United Airlines jetliner backing away from a gate at San Francisco International Airport hit a tow truck Saturday morning. None of the 51 people aboard the Boeing 737 leaving for Reno, Nevada, was injured. The truck driver suffered facial lacerations and was taken to the hospital, a United spokesman said. Damage to the rear portion of the fuselage prevented the plane from taking off, and passengers left on another flight an hour later. Also on Saturday, a small fire broke out in a storeroom at National Airport in Washington, D.C. An airport spokesman says the blaze was apparently triggered by someone working with a welder. The terminal was not evacuated and no flights were delayed.
