Surfer dog rides the waves

PISMO BEACH, California (CNN) -- Four-year-old Melvin takes to the board with the rest of the surfers on the California coast, drawing attention not because of his age, but because he's, well, a dog.

Owner Gregory Hood says that Melvin is quite an attraction on the golden sands, but he doesn't take credit for his canine's skills on the boogie board.

"He never got a treat for doing any of this stuff," Hood says. "He learned it all on his own."
