Black students converge on Atlanta for Freaknik
April 18, 1997Web posted at: 10:48 p.m. EDT (0248 GMT) ATLANTA (CNN) -- Thousands of black college students began arriving in Atlanta Friday for the annual street party known as Freaknik. A plan to get the partiers off the streets and into a concert hall failed when the organizers were unable to round up enough money to pay the six bands. Among the other activities planned are a party at a downtown club hosted by Michael Bivins of the hip-hop group "New Edition," a basketball tournament, rap sessions, a film festival and a daylong job fair.
