Three Stooges still fans crazy for Shemp

(CNN) -- It's a long way from Ohio to California, but that didn't deter fans of Shemp Howard -- of The Three Stooges fame -- from traveling across the country to Shempfest '97.

The party, at a private home in San Diego, culminated at midnight Sunday in appropriate fashion: a pie fight involving some 600 chocolate cream pies
For the uninformed, Shemp joined the Three Stooges in 1947, replacing Curly, who suffered a stroke. He was featured in 77 episodes.
