Frostbitten twins improving
January 20, 1997Web posted at: 8:30 p.m. EST OMAHA, Nebraska (CNN) -- Twin girls who wandered outside in sub-zero temperatures were improving Monday, but doctors said they continued to worry about the extent of frostbite damage. Jennifer Warocek, who was more seriously injured, was upgraded from serious condition to fair. Her sister, Kourtney remained in stable condition at Omaha's Children's Hospital. The 3-year-old twins wandered outside to play early Friday without shoes or coats in temperatures 10 degrees below zero. Dr. George Reynolds of the hospital's pediatric intensive care unit, said Jennifer was brought to the hospital in full cardio-pulmonary arrest with a body temperature below 70 degrees. Doctors used a heart-lung bypass machine which stabilized her body temperature at a normal 98.6 degrees. Both girls suffer from frostbite, mostly on their feet and lower extremities. Related stories:
