One of twins found in alley is alert

OMAHA, Nebraska (CNN) -- One of the 3-year-old twin sisters found huddled in an alley amid frigid temperatures is alert and in stable condition, hospital officials in Omaha said Sunday. But while the condition of Kourtney Woracek has improved, her sister, Jennifer, remained in serious condition.

Hospital officials said Kourtney sucked her thumb and held her mother's hand late Saturday. Jennifer is awake and is nodding her head to questions but she remains on a respirator and cannot speak, officials said.

The two girls were found Friday in minus 11 degree temperatures, wearing pants, light shirts and boots. The two had apparently awakened before dawn and gone outside to play in the snow.
