Citadel cadet admits harassing female, officer says
January 8, 1997
CHARLESTON, South Carolina (CNN) -- Eleven Citadel cadets face disciplinary action stemming from the hazing of two female cadets last year, the commandant of the state military college said Wednesday. An officer investigating the cases told a hearing Wednesday that a male cadet admitted he told one of the women that if he saw her off campus he would "cut her heart out." Retired Army Col. Joe Trez, who is in charge of all students, said the male cadet also admitted throwing fingernail polish remover on two female cadets. Four women were admitted last fall to the formerly all-male school. The state and FBI are investigating reports that cadets Kim Messer of Clover, South Carolina, and Jeanie Mentavlos of Charlotte, North Carolina, were targets of the hazing. Two other women have not reported problems but have corroborated some details of the incidents, Trez said. Related stories:
