James Earl Ray's condition improves
December 29, 1996Web posted at: 10:00 p.m. EST NASHVILLE, Tennessee (CNN) -- James Earl Ray, the convicted assassin of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., continues to recover in a Nashville hospital from complications linked to his failing liver and kidney. Ray's condition was upgraded from serious to fair Sunday morning by doctors at Columbia Nashville Memorial Hospital, where he was taken a week ago because of internal bleeding related to the failure of his organs. Ray lapsed into a coma and was in critical condition on Christmas Eve, but regained consciousness on Christmas Day. Special section:Related stories:
