New Orleans mall stores aim to reopen by Super Bowl
December 24, 1996 NEW ORLEANS (CNN) -- Merchants at the Riverwalk shopping mall in New Orleans hope to be back in business by Super Bowl time after losing Christmas business when a freighter slammed into the Mississippi River dock and damaged their stores. Crews are still unloading corn from the crippled freighter and working around-the clock to shore up the dock-side mall. The mall's manager said there is a possibility the damaged stores -- nearly 100 of them -- will open as early as a week before the January 26 NFL title game in the Louisiana Superdome.
